In 2024 …
Most sports in Britain have embraced digital technology and recognised that a good “user experience” is essential for any sport to increase membership, improve retention and develop!
The founder of Judo:
“It is not important to be better than someone else, but to be better than yesterday.”
— Kano Jigoro
In 2022, the LYG judo competition was cancelled shortly before it was to happen due to poor organisation and coordination!
In 2023, the LYG went ahead, it was well attended but many complained about the long day due to block registrations/weigh-ins instead or rolling with-ins along with poor event communication before and durig the competition.
In 2024, nothing much has changed except the venue is now BJA London Area’s favourite. UEL, East London.
Registration and organising judoka competing is still not centralised or easy but left to volunteer judo coaches across the London Boroughs.
But first, you have to find out who the Judo representative is for the Borough a judoka is reprsenting.
You can try contacting the competition organiser, BJA London Area to find out?
londonjudotournaments@gmail.com
The generic contact page for BJA london Area Committee
But most likely, if you don’t already know, you will have to go through the cumbersome process of first emailing the Borough and await a response identifying their judo representative.
Then email this person to register and get information.
See “How to Enter” section.

Find out who the person is within the Borough that is in charge of Judo.
Ask your coach or go to the LYG page to find out how to contact a Borough LYG person/department and ask for the details.LYG “How to Compete Page”
-
Once you know who the Borogh Judo representative is, contact this person.
-
Follow the instructions by the designated judo person that will then register the judoka with the Borough.
-
Request registration verification & event details.
Why this outdated, complicated and time-consuming proces is still in use today?
In 2022, the organisation and coordination between LYG, BJA London and volunteers was so poor that the competition was cancelled less than 2 weeks before it was suppose to happen.
In 2023, may complained about the lack of information & promotion, the complicated registration structure and how the competition was organised on the day with little info and block registrations leading to long waiting times.
See Feedback section.
