All is set at the Complexo Municipal dos Desportos in the city of Almada for the 2023 IBSA Judo Grand Prix Portugal.
Starting this Monday, the competition is gathering 171 judokas from 28 countries and four continents, with most of them paving their way to Paris 2028. This is the first tournament since the last World Championships in Baku, Azerbaijan, in November 2022.
Brazil, Canada, Croatia, France, Great Britain, Georgia, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Italy, Jamaica, Japan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Republic of Korea, Libya, Lithuania, Moldova, Mexico, Portugal, Romania, Spain, Switzerland, Sweden, Turkiye, Ukraine, the USA, and Venezuela are confirmed in the Portuguese tatamis.
The accreditation and eye classifications started on Saturday and continued on Sunday. Check the competition programme (CET, local time +1) as follows:

Monday 30th – 10:00am start
Connah Anders (Hardy Spicer; Fitzroy Davies) is the sole GB Judo representative on the opening day when he competes in the J1 -73kg category. Anders made her World Championship debut in 2022 after an impressive 5th place finish at the IBSA European Championships earlier in the year.
Tuesday 31st – 10:00am start
Dan Powell made a dramatic return to the VI judo scene last year as he picked up a silver medal at the IBSA World Championships. He will compete in the J1 -90kg category.
Competing in the J2 -90kg category is Evan Molloy (Devizes JC; Mark Burbridge). 2022 was Molloy’s greatest in the sport to date and one that he will be looking to improve upon in 2023. 2022 Saw Molloy claim silver and bronze medals at the IBSA Egyptian International Judo Championships and IBSA Antalya Grand Prix respectively ahead of a 5th place finish at the IBSA European Championships.
Paralympic Champion and 2022 IBSA Sao Paulo Grand Prix champion Chris Skelley (Haltemprice; Ian Johns) will be in action in the J2 +90kg category. Skelley won gold at the 2022 IBSA Sao Paulo Grand Prix following a bronze medal at the IBSA Nur-Sultan Grand Prix.
Kirsten Taylor (Tayside JC; David Scobie) claimed silver at the IBSA Nur-Sultan Grand Prix in 2022 before a 4thplace finish at the IBSA European Championships. The Scottish judoka will fight in the J2 +70kg category.
IBSA Portugal Grand Prix
Preliminary Round action starts at 10:00am (GMT) on Monday and Tuesday.
Final Block is scheduled to commence at 16:00 on both days.
